Haier’s “Japanese” subsidiary brand enters the Russian market with a strong proposition: one of the quietest indoor units of the season, a comprehensive air-treatment package, and more copper in the heat exchangers than similarly priced rivals.

Our verdict on the AQUA AQI-25FIS1/R3-B(IN)

Aqua is an in-house brand of China’s Haier Group, structured on paper as Japanese: the company has been registered in Japan since 1965, and Haier acquired it to enter the local market. Under the Aqua brand there, the lineup includes not only air conditioners but also major home appliances, and the brand’s backstory even includes the once-acquired Japanese Sanyo. Within the group hierarchy, Aqua has also found its place: below the ultra-premium Casarte, yet clearly above entry-level Haier—in other words, an “upper mid-premium” positioning with a clear focus on build quality rather than price.

The brand arrived in Russia in 2025, and the Towada series is its calling card. Towada is a high-altitude lake in the crater of a Japanese volcano, and the name is clearly chosen to reinforce the model’s “Japanese” character. In the tested AQI-25FIS1/R3 configuration, it’s a wall-mounted inverter split system delivering 2.6 kW of cooling, with a retail price around 65–75 thousand rubles. It’s sold in two colors—black and white; our review unit is the black version.

Visually, the indoor unit looks premium: a monolithic front panel with no punch-outs for side piping, no marketing stickers, a matte finish, and a large presence sensor on the fascia. The only design mismatch is that the internal plastic parts and the louver remain gray; in the white version it’s hardly noticeable, while in the black unit it creates a slight contrast. The louvers are single-piece, with a distinctive “ramp” at the outlet that helps throw the air stream up toward the ceiling.

For air treatment, the model comes with a clear surplus for its class. Inside the unit there’s a large ultraviolet lamp combined with an ionizer, plus two color-coded fine filters mounted in dedicated pockets. There’s also the proprietary Health function and Nano Aqua Generator—a mode in which the air conditioner ionizes water molecules and enriches the airflow with negatively charged particles. On top of that comes antibacterial treatment of the heat exchanger: a frosting cycle followed by high-temperature heating, so dust and microflora are washed away together with the condensate. A humidity sensor is fitted as well—the unit controls dehumidification with percent-level accuracy, which is more of a nice-to-have in temperate regions, but a fully fledged feature in coastal climates.

Controls are laid out the way you typically see on higher-priced models. The remote with a large color display changes backlight color depending on the mode, while the current operating mode is illuminated through the indoor unit’s black front panel. The fan offers five speeds, and the central button on the remote is dedicated to Quiet—easy to find by touch at night. The Wi‑Fi module works via the EVO app with servers located in Russia—Haier is standardizing this solution across the entire range, and here it performs reliably.

The key impression from the indoor unit is just how quiet it is. Our instrument measured 29.3 dB, one of the lowest noise levels we’ve recorded this season. Airflow control is equally well executed: with a single Health Flow button, the louvers move to the upper position and the stream goes to the ceiling, away from occupants. This addresses the most common request—“no draft”—and does so more intuitively than Samsung’s perforated panels. The presence sensor further steers the flow away from a stationary person and responds instantly.

The internals back up the positioning. The indoor heat exchanger is a two-row design with 5 mm tubing; by our measurement method, the copper surface area is 0.27 m²—above the season average. The chassis is sizable; the rear panel features a neat Japanese-style metal grille; terminals and mounting points are assembled cleanly; and the temperature sensor is placed out of the direct airflow—a Haier hallmark.

The outdoor unit follows the same logic: “plenty of copper and tidy wiring.” The heat-exchanger tube surface area is 0.41 m²—a result we previously saw only on expensive Mitsubishi and LG units earlier in the season; the copper is thick, 7 mm, with no missing rows. A heater cable for the extended temperature range is present, and the stated lower heating limit is minus 20 °C, but the cable routing is sloppy: with a slightly more thoughtful layout, the manufacturer could likely claim minus 25 °C as well. The compressor is inverter-driven, wrapped in dual-layer sound insulation; vibration measures 0.15, which is within normal limits. Expected segment constraints include capillary-tube throttling—an EEV at this price point is uncommon.

Bottom line: Aqua Towada is a well-finished, quiet, and richly equipped inverter system. Its strengths are low noise, convenient one-touch airflow control, a serious air-treatment suite, and a generous copper reserve in both units. The weak points are predictable for the segment: suboptimal winter-kit routing, no EEV and no Russian-language remote, and gray internal plastics on the black version. The model confidently steps beyond the “average Chinese midrange.” We’d recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, premium-feeling unit with advanced automatic air treatment, without moving up to Casarte pricing and the Japanese “big five.”

«Aqua Towada confidently goes beyond the typical Chinese midrange: one of the quietest units of the season, convenient one-button airflow control, and heat-exchanger engineering that’s rarely seen at this price.»Редакция «Август-Климат»
