A “Swiss” Energolux inverter built on a Midea platform: a nice-looking indoor unit paired with an unexpectedly weak heat exchanger. With a record-low copper surface area in our sample, the compressor is forced to work harder at elevated speeds.

Our verdict on the Energolux SAS07R1-AI

Energolux is positioned as a Swiss brand, but along the production chain this is a Midea OEM model—the casing, display board, remote, and the distinctive outdoor-grille design are instantly recognizable. The Davos series is named after the ski resort; the sticker lists liability insurance of 15 million rubles (for comparison, a number of Japanese and major Chinese brands insure for up to one million dollars). The price of the tested 7k unit is 46 700 rubles. This is no longer a budget inverter, and at this price it’s reasonable to expect built-in Wi‑Fi and a physical ionizer; neither is present here—Wi‑Fi is offered as an optional USB dongle, while the ionizer declared on the box could not be identified either by us or by the manufacturer on camera.

On the outside, the indoor unit looks neat: a front panel made of unusual “custom” plastic opens wide; only one fine filter is included in the box. Inside the unit is a signature Midea idea: a universal display mounting zone where, depending on configuration, the indicator board can be installed in one of two positions. The Wi‑Fi module, if you decide to buy it, is installed “under the skin”: the USB stick itself hides in a dedicated slot behind the front panel, and reaching it after wall installation is no longer easy.

The remote is a Midea unit, with built-in backlighting and the brand’s recognizable “mesh” key design. Ergonomically, it has noticeable issues: the indication under the faceplate reads as if “through frosted glass,” and the screen doesn’t fit the housing tightly. Fan speeds are shown as percentages (20/40/60/80/100), and those percentages duplicate the temperature setpoint fields—on the very same area of the display—which is confusing. The speed-switching logic itself is unintuitive: the first press only highlights the current speed, and only if you press again within a second or two does it actually change—miss the window and you’re back to the start.

The minimum-speed noise test measured 32,6 dB, slightly below our seasonal average (33 dB). To the ear it sounds quiet, though a distinct mechanical background is present. The air conditioner passed the stress test on a lab variac both times: 150 V and 100 V input—operates without cutouts.

The indoor heat exchanger is the main—and unpleasant—surprise. Single-row, 5‑mm copper, just 8 hairpins at 51,5 cm each. By our measurement method, the copper surface area is 0,13 m². That’s a negative record in our test series: we haven’t yet seen a smaller area on any model. This directly undermines the claimed “A++” efficiency: the unit can’t remove large heat loads and has to compensate for the lack of area with a colder refrigerant temperature and more aggressive torque from the outdoor unit.

Visually, the outdoor unit looks familiar: the recognizable Midea grille, a tidy Energolux logo, and a questionable lower “tray” protecting the ports where ice will accumulate in subzero conditions. Vibration measurements came in at 0,29–0,35—noticeably above the norm. The reason isn’t assembly quality, but precisely the shortage of copper area in the indoor unit: to deliver the rated cooling capacity, the outdoor unit runs continuously at elevated fan speed, and the compressor drives the refrigerant hard. The DC fan motor, in practice, doesn’t get a chance to “catch its breath.”

Inside the outdoor unit is a GMCC compressor from the KSK series with index 75. KSK is an older series than the modern KSN typically fitted to “true” inverters in this class. Expansion is handled by a simple capillary tube; there is predictably no EEV. The mounting plate quality and overall assembly are decent. The copper surface area of the outdoor heat exchanger is 0,27 m², with no gaps—an average value for the sample.

Bottom line on the Energolux Davos: a neatly assembled, attractive Midea-platform OEM where engineering has been sacrificed to looks and marketing positioning. Strengths: design, a solid mounting plate, stable operation on reduced mains voltage, a decent noise measurement, and a 25 m line-set length. Weak points: record-low copper area in the indoor unit, elevated outdoor-unit vibration, no ionizer despite being declared, vague indication and an inconvenient remote, and an outdated compressor series. We recommend it to those who primarily care about the air conditioner’s appearance and the “inverter + Wi‑Fi (optional) + 25 m line set” package, rather than maximum output per watt.

«0,13 m² of copper in the indoor unit is a negative record in our test series. And there’s a visible reason: the outdoor unit constantly runs at elevated speeds to squeeze the rated capacity out of such a heat exchanger.»Редакция «Август-Климат»
