An obscure Chinese brand from an unidentified factory: an awful “boiling” refrigerant noise at 46 dB and a tiny single-row heat exchanger. A decent GMCC compressor for 25,000 is no reason to ignore everything else.

Our verdict on the KEG KAC-9GHA-P100/I

KEG entered the Russian market in 2025, and for now there’s very little verified information about the brand. In Europe, the same abbreviation belongs to a German engineering company, but it has nothing to do with HVAC. Our KEG has Chinese roots, yet the exact manufacturing plant can’t be identified confidently from the casing, the display board, or the remote — the remote’s form factor resembles Gree, Haier, and BIO alike. The price of the 9 model Classic L on/off is around 25,000 rubles, and by today’s standards that’s no longer rock-bottom budget territory: at the same price you can find a number of more recognizable brands with transparent factory provenance.

Visually, the indoor unit is neat: no flashy décor, a white front panel, a standard clip latch for the filter. The filter itself is white — an indirect sign the factory is not Midea. There is no fine-particle filter included. The remote is a classic layout with two rocker switches and a central button; there is no screen backlight at all — a simplification that stands out immediately in this class today. Batteries are included, which is a welcome small touch for recent shipments to Russia.

The main impression from the indoor unit is the sound. From the moment it starts, there’s a distinct extraneous noise, and teardown shows it’s not the fan or the intake — it’s the refrigerant itself: it literally “boils and whistles” in the heat-exchanger tubes, and that sound overwhelms everything else. At the minimum fan speed, the meter records 46 dB. That is unquestionably high — in our measurement series we’ve only seen that level on the cheapest on/off models, and for a 9 class unit in 2025 it’s a poor result. Against the refrigerant noise, even the fan-speed check becomes secondary: the unit does confirm five fan speeds (Mute via the “ear” button, three operating speeds, and Turbo), but the fan’s own mechanical noise is barely audible over the main background.

Variac test: it holds 150 V at the input confidently; at 100 V it formally continues to run, but the effect is the same as with JAX in the same segment — the compressor “survives,” airflow drops almost to zero, and the indication fades.

Inside, the unit is built modestly. The heat exchanger is single-row, just 6 bends with a 53 cm coil length, 7 mm copper. By our measurement method, the surface area is 0.14 m². That’s one of the lowest figures of the season: the only lower result we saw was Energolux. The air temperature sensor is mounted loosely — it dangles in its seat; in assembled form it’s not critical, but during disassembly for service the wire can easily end up routed incorrectly.

The outdoor unit looks simpler than price peers. The diffuser is small and doesn’t span the full height of the casing; there is no port protection. The sticker specifies R410A — for 2025 that’s already an outdated choice, as the market has moved to R32. Inside, there is virtually no compressor sound insulation, the refrigerant-line insulation is basic, and the heat exchanger is thin with two bypass sections: the upper and lower parts are effectively inactive. Vibration is 0.40, noticeably above our standard “corridor” (≤0.20), indicating the unit “shakes” due to poor sound insulation quality.

The only truly solid element in the outdoor unit is the GMCC KSN-series compressor with index 86. It’s a modern series and correctly matched for a 9 model. The copper surface area of the outdoor heat exchanger is 0.24 m², slightly below the seasonal average. The indoor-to-outdoor heat-transfer balance is acceptable, but the absolute values for both are simply too small.

Bottom line on KEG Classic L: there are no mitigating factors here. For 25,000, the market offers far clearer options from established factory brands with understandable lineage. Strengths: a properly selected GMCC KSN86 compressor, formal operation at 100 V, a tidy-looking indoor unit. Weak points: 46 dB measured noise with “boiling” refrigerant, no fine-particle filter and no remote backlight, record-small indoor heat-exchanger area, outdated R410A refrigerant, no compressor sound insulation, elevated vibration (0.40), and bypass sections in the outdoor heat exchanger. We’re not ready to recommend this model at this price — a fair price point for this design is closer to 17–18 thousand.

«46 dB is not a bedroom noise level — it’s an office corridor level. And here it’s not the fan, but the refrigerant itself “whistling” through a thin single-row heat exchanger.»Редакция «Август-Климат»
