Japanese companies have unveiled the portable cooled booth Do Hiemon Box, designed to quickly reduce body temperature in extreme heat. The development came after the country recorded temperatures of up to 38 °C and issued further heatstroke risk warnings. The unit is designed as an individual space with an internal temperature of around 15 °C, where a user can cool down quickly without using a conventional air conditioner.
The booth operates on the principle of targeted cooling: a person seated inside receives streams of cold air to the:
- head
- neck
- shoulders
- back
Full-body cooling takes about five minutes; however, the maximum duration of a single session is limited to twenty minutes, after which the system shuts off automatically. This design helps effectively combat overheating in public places or at work sites. 🧊

- about 1.22 meters in depth
The enclosure is made of stainless steel, fitted with wheels for easy movement, and offers three operating modes with adjustment of airflow intensity and temperature. Two Japanese firms were involved in the development:
- a vending machine manufacturer
- a company specializing in steel toolboxes
According to the manufacturer SDRS, the price of one booth is 1.5 million yen, and operating costs are just 16 yen per hour, which is lower than the average consumption of a standard air conditioner. Staying inside for about ten minutes helps reduce fatigue caused by heat stress and can be used as an additional protective measure during periods of abnormal heat. 🌡️
