Johnson Controls introduces industrial heat pumps with water heating temperatures up to 122°C

Johnson Controls announced the launch of a new line of industrial high-temperature heat pumps, Sabroe HitemHP, designed for European companies that require high-temperature process heating. The system enables a switch to electricity and reduces carbon dioxide emissions without sacrificing performance.

In one real-world project, the installation delivered:

  • ⚡ three times higher energy efficiency compared with electric boilers
  • 💰 energy cost reduction of more than 91%
  • 💧 water cost reduction — up to 30%
  • 🌍 on-site CO₂ emissions reduction — up to 82% (when using waste heat from refrigeration equipment)

Growth in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, as well as the precision engineering and food processing sectors, is driving demand for energy-intensive processes with temperatures above 100°C. At the same time, traditional fossil-fuel systems are becoming increasingly expensive and vulnerable to price volatility.

The new HitemHP line, developed and manufactured in Europe, helps companies:

  • reduce energy costs
  • accelerate decarbonization
  • maintain reliable operation amid unstable energy supplies

Johnson Controls Vice President and General Manager of Industrial Refrigeration Steve Bell noted that electrifying high-temperature heating has so far remained one of the most challenging tasks. According to him, Sabroe heat pumps enable critical industries to ensure energy security, significantly reduce operating costs, and align with the goals of the European Clean Industrial Deal program.

HitemHP heat pumps are manufactured at the plant in Holme (Denmark) and operate exclusively on natural refrigerants, in line with future EU regulations. At the core is the proven Sabroe SMC reciprocating compressor, which:

  • extends service intervals by nearly 50%
  • increases the coefficient of performance (COP) by up to 20% at part load

In 2025, Johnson Controls' heat pump portfolio helped customers reduce heating costs by an average of 32% and cut emissions by 55%.
