Trane Technologies Introduces Residential Heat Pumps for Extreme Winters

Trane Technologies has introduced its first residential heat pumps, specifically designed and manufactured for the housing sector under the Trane and American Standard brands.

The new systems are designed to operate in extremely cold climates:

  • maintain 100% heating capacity at an outdoor air temperature of -15°C

  • continue to operate reliably down to −30°C

  • combine inverter control, high energy efficiency, and intelligent connectivity

  • provide fully electric home heating ⚡

The lineup includes the following models:

  • Trane 20 TruComfort Cold Climate Heat Pump with WeatherGuard

  • American Standard AccuComfort Platinum 20 Cold Climate Heat Pump with All Weather

Both heat pumps support a dual-fuel configuration for operation together with existing furnaces, enabling flexible use of the equipment in regions with sharp temperature swings.

The systems exceeded the requirements of the US Department of Energy’s Residential Cold Climate Heat Pump Technology Challenge program. Their performance is validated by nearly 18 thousand hours of field testing in residential homes in the following states:

  • Minnesota

  • Montana

  • New York

  • Pennsylvania

  • Wisconsin

  • Texas

The equipment supports Link technology, is compatible with smart thermostats and air-cleaning systems, and enables remote diagnostics and zoning 🛠️.

Market availability is scheduled for fall 2026, with:

  • compressors covered by a warranty of up to 12 years

  • outdoor heat exchangers and components — up to 10 years (with registration)
