In July 2026, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of Türkiye presented the country’s first National Cooling Action Plan. The official presentation of the document took place on 23 July under the leadership of the Directorate of Climate Change, which had been developing the strategy for 3 years together with the Cool Up program.
The plan creates a framework for the country’s transition to sustainable cooling. It takes into account:
- growing demand for air conditioners and refrigeration equipment;
- emissions scenarios through 2050.
The document defines priority steps for introducing energy-efficient and climate-resilient solutions in the sector.
Türkiye annually exports air conditioners and refrigeration equipment to EU countries worth 310 million US dollars. As one of the leading manufacturers in this industry, the country influences the development of environmental standards not only within its own market, but also beyond it.
Representatives at the plan’s launch event included:
- government agencies;
- international organizations;
- businesses;
- the scientific community.
Participants discussed 🧊 sustainable cooling policy, demand forecasts, and the measures needed to implement the strategy.
Achieving the goals of the National Cooling Action Plan will require further cross-sector collaboration, investment, and consistent action. This will enable Türkiye to promote energy-efficient technologies and reduce climate impacts.
