A new two-year plan for refrigerant life cycle management
ASHRAE and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) approved the Life Cycle Refrigerant Management (LCRM) work plan at the 2026 ASHRAE Winter Conference in Las Vegas. This decision strengthens the partnership in place since 2007 and aims to advance sustainable refrigerant management practices worldwide.
The plan provides for comprehensive management at all stages of the life cycle—from production and installation to recovery, reuse, and disposal.
Key objectives
- 🌍 Reducing ozone depletion from legacy substances
- 🌱 Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from alternative refrigerants with a high global warming potential
- ⚙️ Improving system efficiency
- 🛡️ Ensuring the safety of service technicians
📎 ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) is a leading international organization that develops standards in the HVAC&R (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration) sector.
