Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering (ISST) have developed software called “Valoon” for creating construction work reports via voice messages in a banned messenger, sparing site managers or technical specialists the need to type even a single word.
When a user selects a template in a WhatsApp chat (for example, a daily construction report) and speaks into their smartphone about their working day, including:
⏱️ working hours
👷 personnel involved
🚜 machine hours
🧱 materials used
⚠️ any special incidents
— the software automatically fills in the relevant fields, adds weather data, and allows photos to be attached directly, according to the developers.
An editable PDF document is then generated, which is automatically saved in the appropriate project.
The feature recognizes and translates the spoken text, allowing multilingual teams to work with the software, the press release says.
“Valoon assigns messages, photos, and voice notes to the corresponding project via the official API of the Banned Messenger Business and stores them in accordance with GDPR and hosts them on servers in Germany.”
